No matter how well cared the rest of your body is it is important to keep your legs and hands groomed.
This routine can be done once a week.
Daily routine.
·         In a foot bath or bucket take warm water, and pour a cup full of marbles. Then run your feet on it. Try to pick the marbles with your toes and let it loose.
·         Use a moisturizer or foot cream every night and cover your feet with socks.
Pampering your feet.
This routine can be done once a week.
1.      Soak feet in a bowl of hot water. add two three drops of essential oil.
2.      Dry the feet and clip the toenails.
3.      If your nails are very stained then use a nail whitner.
4.      Rub the feet with an exfoliating body sucub,
5.      Support the feet
6.      Work lotion between the feet, reactivating the pressure points
7.      Put your feet up for a while.
Buying a footwear seems so simple actually it is and it is not,  you need to spend a little while on it. Style and colour apart, it would be good to go through the following routine.
1.      Have your feet measured by a salesperson.
Many people jump ahead to trying on the shoes without checking the length and width of each foot. It is important to know to proper size of your feet and if your feet are slightly different sizes.
2.      Shop for the larger foot.
If your feet are different sizes, buy a shoe that best fits the larger foot. If you need, buy an insole to fill space in the other shoe.
3.      Make sure the shoe fits your heel and your toes.
The toebox should provide ample wiggle room, and the heel should not slip up when walking.
4.      Go for a walk in the store.
Make sure the shoe is comfortable for a short walk around the store--any pain is only going to be worse on a long walk.
5.      Don't think a shoe will 'break-in.'
This is a common misconception that shoes should be purchased snug so they can break-in. Wrong! Shoes should fit when you buy them.
Tips:
1.      Stand up when measuring your feet.
Do your footwear shopping towards the end of the day after you've been up and walking for a few hours. Under these conditions your feet will be slightly larger than in the morning. End-of-the-day shopping is the best way to buy footwear.
2.      Remeasure your feet each time you buy new shoes.
Measure your feet each visit as your shoe size can change over time. And never buy a shoe based on size alone--try them on!

know your colon

Know your colon

The food we take in gets broken, digested and all the unwanted products get eliminated. This fantastic system is the digestive system.

In the digestive system we have mouth, food pipe, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Colon is another name for the large intestine.

So important is the colon system to the body that is formed when the fetes are 3mnths old in the uterus...

The colon is 4 ft. 5 inches in length and 2.5 feet in width.

Ileocecal valve is a small opening at the end of the small intestine which controls the flow of contents from the small intestine to the large intestine. The large intestine begins from here and is divided into 6 parts, on the right side of the body it begins with a climb, so it is called the ascending colon, it then turns horizontal and becomes the transverse colon, from there it becomes the descending colon descending into the sigmoid colon, which is S- shaped hence it is called the sigmoid colon, the Rectum commences here and finally ends in the anus.

This forms the entire sewage system of the body. The food enters the ascending colon in liquid form and its transition to the semisolid form would occur in the transverse colon.

The colon is made of connective tissue, which is motile in the inside and hard outside. This undergoes a contractile movement called the peristalsis which kneads the food. The inner lining of the colon is also rich in micro flora which ferments the digested food. The impulse to defecate occurs when the digested food travels from the sigmoid to the rectum.

Interestingly the food may reach the large intestine in 2hrs after food ingestion but might take nearly 2 days to get expelled. Even if a third of the large intestine were to be excised it would have no impact either on the continence or the quality of the stool.

Since 61% of the nutrient absorption as already occurred here the water soluble nutrients are absorbed. Vitamin K is a major nutrient absorbed in the colon vitamin k is essential for the clotting of blood

The peristaltic movement also pushes the food forward, till it reaches the rectum which can be equated to the refuse storage plant, from where it is expelled out through the anus this expulsion is controlled by the anal-sphincter,

The function of the colon is essentially 3 fold.

• Accepting and store food not accepted by the small intestine.

• Absorbing water and minerals from the small intestine refuse. This absorption of water maintains the electrolyte balance of the body

• To eliminate the solid waste.

This process is assisted by the micro flora of the body. The intestinal micro flora exist in a delicate balance, this balance gets disturbed by irregular, habits and stress resulting constipation, gas and sometimes even Candida infection,

colon cleansing and health benefits,

Colon is the last destination of the food ingested. And digestion is a process that occurs within the body, with the help of enzymes that break down the food and absorb the nutrients required. Colon absorbs water and eliminates waste. Some water soluble vitamins are also absorbed here.

The body cleanses the colon routinely sometimes once a day, but two times a day or once in two days are also considered normal.

Due to erratic eating habit and decreased food fibre sometimes this process has to be induced. It is also called as intestine cleansing. The goal of which is to clean the digestive waste from the colon and reinstate proper colonic health, peristalsis and the natural micro flora of the colon.

If this elimination does not occur properly then a build up of toxins occurs. This results in:

• Brain fog

• Susceptibility to infections, like flu, common cold.

• Skin problems acne,

• Allergies are more pronounced.

• Depression and sometimes even suicidal tendencies.

• Bloating

• Shoulder and back pain.

• Feeling of tiredness, and sickness.

Once colon cleansing is done, the digestive waste along with hardened mucus gets flushed out. This improves the peristaltic movement of the digestive system. The optimal efficiency of stomach, pancreas, intestine liver and gallbladder is achieved. This results in a variety of health benefits like:

Elimination of constipation: proper peristaltic movement would ensure that the digestive waste is eliminated on time, as there is no excess clogging there is any excess re-absorption of water. Which means the bowels are less stressed during movements, it automatically reduces constipation.

Reduction in constipation results in decrease in haemorrhoids (blood polyps) and fissures (cracks occurring due to stressful colon movements).

The converse that is diarrhoea is also controlled when the colonic health is good and regular.

Improvement of digestive function is achieved by regulated muscle movement and kneading.

Once the digestion is efficient automatically the absorption of nutrition is also optimized. Impaired digestive problems like bloating and gas is also eliminated.

Better nutrition intake stimulates an overall better health and immune status.

Individuals tend to suffer less from allergies and constant infections. As sufficient nutrition is available to the cells, the energy quality and uptake is optimized. Resulting in lesser tendency to fatigue. So logically there is increase in ability to concentrate.

Lesser toxic accumulation also means lesser burden on the skin for toxin elimination, so acne and other skin problems reduces.

It is noted that when the digestive system is good, and colon cleansing is regulated, the tendency for comfort eating, and depression also reduces causing a reduction in weight.

When the colon is healthy then syndromes like irritable bowel cancer tendencies are also minimized.

Keeping our own over all emotional and physical health in view colon cleansing is an excellent preventive option. It is not very difficult either, all that one has to do is to reduce junk food, eat more raw vegetables, fruits, and cereal. Drink half your body weight in ounces of water. Taking of food at regular intervals, occasional fasting all contributes to maintain good health.

home remedies to cleanse your colon

Colon cleansing is necessary for a good health. It keeps the skin clean, prevents colon cancer, and most important cleanses the body of the toxin.

Though the ideal way to would be to regulate the food and nutrition in take, it might at times be necessary to intentionally bring this about.

It is not only about a great, bowel movement, it is also about expelling gas which can be painful, and relieve constipation.

In this article we are looking at home recipes and remedies for deliberately inducing a colon cleanse. Home cleansing methods emerge a dime and dozen; the point here is to have a system that works for you. Importantly it necessary that blind elimination should not occur; required nutrient supplies must be taken.

It is important to ensure that the fibre content is good, water intake in at least half the body weight in ounces (a 100 lb should take at least 50 ounces of water). Reduce coffee, alcohol and junk food.

The remedies range from ayurveda to grandma’s recipes.

Cayenne, fennel, garlic, senna are some commonly used ones.

From out own kitchen, some colon cleansing ingredients are

Psyllium—it is a great laxative, and induces movements of the intestine.

Flax seeds enlarges the intestinal walls and allows better peristalsis (contraction of the wall of the intestine)

Ginger reduces bloating

Garlic eliminates toxins and parasite growth

Barberry stimulates colon movements

Fennel is a good purgative and also an antibacterial and antifungal.

Fasting: not only allows the system to rest also promotes cleansing.

Probiotics: are foods that allow the growth and rebalance of the intestinal microflora, banana’s, Garlic, Onion, are all probiotic in nature.

Fish; which is rich in Omega 3 fatty acid is good for the system too.

Lemonade diet is another popular grandma’s recipe that works wonders.

Oats taken at breakfast with fruits are also effective.

Magnesium oxide in water is a good solution it releases oxygen in the gut which neutralizes the anaerobic bacteria and allows for the growth of natural bacteria. But this has to be done carefully and for not more than a week as it could result in a sterile gut which is not good either. We need to get a balance.

Warm saline flushes works wonders for many patients.

Drinking warm tea, infusion with little or no milk. Is another good laxative. This is followed by many people as a daily routine. The tannin in the tea reduces inflammation in the colon and encourages peristalsis.

Rhubarb is another very effective grandma’s remedy. It has tannin which reduces inflammation and anthraquinone that encourages peristalsis.

In general a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and water should be taken. Ayurveda has a dispension called triphala churna, made of haritikia (terminalia chebula), vibhitaki (terminalia belerica) and amla (goose berry—phyllantus Embellica) this combination taken routinely by it self, or as an infusion in hot water is a good laxative.

oral herpes

Oral herpes

Herpes is a viral infection, found exclusively in humans. It is usually caused by Herpes Simpled. Herpes simplex is of two types. type I which is responsible for 80% of the Herpatic attacks and type II which is responsible for the balance. It spreads through saliva, mucous membrane and skin. When it is in the mouth it is called orolabial herpes or Herpes Labialis. In the fingers, it is herpes digitalis, in the eyes, herpatoconjunctiva or herpes occuli, in the brain it is herpes encephalitis.

Colloquially it is called cold sores, or fever blisters.

Oral herpes is particularly seen in children between 1-2yrs.

Many a times herpes is asymptomatic, sometimes even latent.

Latent Herpes is caused by HSV-2 virus which is not only recurrent but can get activated by stress, physical or emotional. Many a times this becomes a recurrent factor. The virus exhibits a cyclic pattern of activation and deactivation.

Once a virus enters the body it takes 2-12days for the symptoms to show. This is called the incubation period.

Once the disease sets in there is pain burning tinglisng, itching, then clusters of blisters appear, a few days later they become dry and a scab is formed. The blister appears shallow and grey with a red base.

When these oral sores appear eating and drinking becomes painful. Then the lymph nodes of the neck swell and become painful.

In young adults and teenagers the tonsils get inflamed and turn grayish.

When to seek medical aid—

• When eating and drinking becomes painful.

• In children if the child requires less change in diapers.

• Signs of dehydration like—drowsiness, irritability, dry mouth.

• If you are not sure what causes the sores.

• If the child is younger than 6months to prevent further complications.

Usually only physical and clinical examination is done.

Sometimes lab tests called Tzank smear is done

Home care:

• Drink lots of fluids.

• Anesthetic mouthwash or cream can be used.

• If required Ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be taken to handle fever and body ache.

When it comes to alternate therapies homeopathy deals with laws of similarity. So I am a little confused.

My colleague from the College of Homeopathy say they have had good response with vaxinotixnum.

While another colleague likes to treat it like a cold sore.

• Before the sores arrive

o Natrum muriacticum – prevents or stops blister at the tingling stage.

o Apis mellifica – prevents blisters from forming

o Lachesis or sepia once/24hrs very useful in women who tend to have blisters before periods.

• After the sores have arrived

o Arsenicum album eruptions are many small blisters with burning sensation.

o Rhus toxicodendron continue treatment until blisters start to crust

o Calendula to soothe the pain associated with cold sores.

• When crusting occurs

o Mezereum if you blisters are filled with a whitish liquid and rapidly evolve to itch crusts.

o Graphite's if you have burning stinging vesicles that are filled with a yellowish liquid that turn to even more itchy crusts.

It is best to take homeopathic medication after consulting a qualified homeopath. As the medication system is very precise, and involves many factors.
